Whangamata is a thriving coastal town.

Gone are the days of septic tanks and bore water. Today Whangamata is a modern functioning mini metropolis (well as good as it can be for 4450 people approx.) and is a regular destination for much of the Waikato and Auckland areas.

Investment in Whangamata is favoured simply because of its kind beaches, easy access to fishing spots and also the varied number of activities that can be enjoyed in and around the town. It’s just a great place to relax or blend into the ‘Latte Set’ in our cosmopolitan main street sidewalk. Employment in Whangamata; whilst not plentiful is very possible if you have the right ‘can-do’ attitude or if your special niche can be exported out of town. Many people come to live in Whangamata because of its laid back atmosphere, it’s far enough away from everything to be a little remote yet you can get to a hospital in an hour if things don’t go as planned.

We have many great facilities here ranging from the memorial hall complex which caters for all types of clubs, theatre, dance, sports, rambling, community groups, the Whangamata Club, the Whangamata RSA, the Whangamata Ocean Sports Club, the Rugby Club, we have a large doctors surgery and ambulance base, we are a central hub for the Thames Coromandel District Council and the list goes on and on.

The town is fully reticulated and has every infrastructure you can imagine or that you would expect for a permanent population of almost four and a half thousand.

In the summer, the population soars to 50,000 and at the annual Beach Hop (held in March) it can creep up to over 100,000 for three to four days.

Whangamata has its famous surfing spot – the ‘Whangamata Bar’. Surfers come here from all over the world to surf one of the longest rides in the Southern Hemisphere.

It’s all here in our town on the shores of New Zealand’s Coromandel Peninsula.

Make Whangamata your next destination, we’d love to see you.
